Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) J. Jay Langley currently serves as the commander of the Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron and is responsible for operational oversight and direction of all unit activities. Lt Col Langley joined Civil Air Patrol (CAP) on May 20th, 1987, while in flight school in Melbourne, Florida, and has been an active member of CAP since then. Prior to assuming the role of squadron commander in 2016, Lt Col Langley served as the Deputy Commander of Cadets of the Raleigh-Wake Composite Squadron, as well as multiple other squadrons across Oklahoma and Kansas.

Throughout his time in CAP, Lt Col Langley has served as a Mission Pilot, Incident Commander, and Ground Team Leader in support of CAP’s Emergency Services mission. He has served on Region Headquarters staff as the Director of Operations and Emergency Services Officer for CAP’s seven-state Middle East Region.

Lt Col Langley is an instrument-rated commercial pilot (ASEL) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing from Oklahoma State University, as well as the honors of Eagle Scout and Master Mason. He met his wife Tracie at Christian Summer Camp in Oklahoma in 1989 and the two married in 1993. They have one son – Bennett Alan Langley. Lt Col Langley and his wife have both been self-employed since 1991 as the owners of High Performance Marketing, a Raleigh-based printing and marketing firm with a global clientele.
