Search and Misssion (SAR) Pilot Training

As a Search and Rescue/Disaster Relief (SAR/DR) Mission Pilot, you fly Emergency Locator Transponder (ELT) searches, Missing Plane/Persons searches, supplies and persons in and out of disaster areas, photo recon missions, damage assessments over terror attack sites (as CAP did over the WTC on Sept. 11th) etc. As a SAR/DR Mission Pilot, you are qualified to fly any CAP tasked mission. Expectations and skill needed to fill this position are high. It is a challenge but the rewards are more then worth it!

Prerequisite Training:

  • Successful CAP Form 5 Checkride (
    , para 3
  • Must be 18 Years of Age (
  • Mission Scanner (
  • Transport Mission Pilot (
  • 50 Hours Cross-Country PIC (
  • 175 Hours PIC to begin Training (
  • Study and complete FEMA courses IS-100 , IS-200, and IS-700. Once completed, logon to E-Services on the National Website. Then click “My Operations Qualifications/ National Reports” then click “Emergency Services” then “Single-Person Achievement” enter your CAPID and the date of your ICS course into the system. You will receive an email with a link to your certificate of completion. Email the PDF file to Cpt. Wiggs at Wing HQ for validation.

  • SQTR prerequisites must be signed by the Commander before continuing to FAM/PREP section.

FAM & PREP

  • Complete items listed on MP SQTR Familiarization and Preparatory section. (

  • SQTR must be signed by the Commander before continuing.
  • Fill out CAP Form 100 and submit electronically with scanned copy of SQTR to the Unit Emergency Services Officer
  • MP issued in WIMRS and shows up on CAPF 101. (Now authorized to participate in actual or training missions w/Qualified Supervisor (

Advanced Tasks:

  • Complete tasks listed on MP SQTR Advanced Section (
    , para 2-2
  • Complete exercise participation requirements. (Must have a Mission Number)
  • Contact CAP Checkpilot and complete
    checkride
  • Fill out CAP Form 100 and submit electronically with scanned copy of SQTR to the Unit Emergency Services Officer
  • Submit completed CAPF 91 to Unit Operations Officer who will forward package to Group Credentialing Officer.
  • Print CAPForm 101 from Paperless Wing. (e-mail notification will be sent)

YOU MUST CARRY YOUR CAP FORM 101 TO PARTICIPATE IN EMERGENCY SERVICES ACTIVITIES!

YOU MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE “AUTHORIZED A&B PILOT LIST” AS A TRANSPORT MISSION PILOT TO ACT AS SAR/MP.
